Big Screen Technology Shootout - Who Will Win and Why?
Find out at the Projection Summit
May 08, 2006 - One of the biggest evolving battles in the display industry is for the ultimate prize - big-screen television. This battle is creating big ripples in supporting and lateral industries as well, including the distribution channels like ProAV, CEDIA, IT and the Internet. To understand how your display business can be successful, you need to track what is happening in consumer TV market as this will affect new product introductions, pricing, performance, channels of distribution, bundling, interactivity and more. HDTV is the locomotive of the display industry and this session is designed to understand how technology competition and innovation will drive the HDTV market and everything else in its wake. The technology contenders for HDTV include Plasma, LCD, rear-projection and front projection - all vying to displace CRT-based TV technology. Competition is heating up in the 40 to 50 inch segment in particular, with huge capital investment fueling this arms race. The winners will be consumers, but who in the supply chain can make money?
The "LCD/Plasma/Projection - Capabilities and Competition" session on Monday afternoon at the Projection Summit, June 5-6, Orlando, Florida, will feature presentations and panel debate as industry leaders and top analysts present a wealth of insights on the recent history, and likely evolution, of this marketplace and the technologies battling for share. This is an opportunity for attendees to hear from leaders in this segment and to engage with analysts in a robust discussion via a panel debate.
This session features presentations by key industry leaders Texas Instruments Panasonic, and Silicon Optix. TI will discuss options for Colorimetry Expansion and Prospects for Projection Big Screen TVs. Panasonic will cover the Prospects for Plasma. Silicon Optix will explain the technology for Electronic Distortion Correction that will enable thin RPTVs. Two analysts, one each from Projection Summit organizers Insight Media and McLaughlin Consulting Group, will highlight the latest evolution of LCD backlight technology and the upside potential for microdisplay RPTVs in home entertainment. The presenters will cover:
- Recent history and outlook for big screen technologies
- Likely future trends, both in technology development and markets
- "Sweet spots" for display sales by technology
- Strategies for success
Projection Summit also features panel discussions at the end of most sessions, and we're expecting some lively discussions! At the end of the "LCD/Plasma/Projection - Capabilities and Competition" session three leading analysts - Pete Putnam from Roam Consulting, Sanju Khatri from iSuppli, and Midori Takaso from Techno Systems Research will comment on the presentations and give their insights, as well as take questions from the audience. Steve Marsland, McLaughlin Consulting Group's dynamic Senior Partner, will moderate the session.
